Which Middle Tennessee Cities Require Compliance Engine Reports for Fire Extinguishers
Five fire departments near Nashville now require fire extinguisher and emergency light reports in The Compliance Engine. They are Lebanon, Brentwood, Goodlettsville, Spring Hill, and Ashland City.
Lebanon has required them since 2020. The other four started in the summer of 2026.
Six more departments use the same system for suppression only. In those cities, a routine extinguisher tag or emergency light test owes no report.
The company that does the work files the report, not the building owner. This guide shows which cities want what, so you know whether your provider owes a filing.
What Is The Compliance Engine?
The Compliance Engine is an online system fire departments use to track inspection reports.
The service company uploads the report after each inspection. The fire department sees which buildings are current and which have open problems.
For years, almost every fire service except extinguishers and emergency lights was tracked this way. Sprinklers, fire alarms, and hood systems were on it. Extinguishers mostly were not.
That changed in several cities this year.
Cities That Want Extinguisher and Emergency Light Reports
These departments list portable fire extinguishers and emergency exit lights in the letters they sent to service companies. They also list kitchen hood and special suppression systems.
| Fire department | Effective date |
|---|---|
| Lebanon Fire Department | January 1, 2020 |
| Brentwood Fire & Rescue | June 29, 2026 |
| Ashland City Fire Department | July 13, 2026 |
| Goodlettsville Fire Department | August 1, 2026 |
| Spring Hill Fire Department | August 15, 2026 |
Every extinguisher, emergency light, and suppression job in these cities owes a report. That includes a job where everything passes.
Ironclad’s Field Experience
I keep this list from the letters each fire department sent to service providers, last updated in September 2026.
Cities That Track Suppression Only
These departments use The Compliance Engine for kitchen hood suppression, special suppression, and spray booth systems. Their letters do not list portable extinguishers or emergency lights.
| Fire department | Effective date |
|---|---|
| Hendersonville Fire Department | November 1, 2018 |
| Millersville Fire Department | April 1, 2020 |
| Portland Fire Department | 2021 |
| Columbia Fire & Rescue | September 1, 2021 |
| Springfield Fire Department | October 15, 2021 |
| Gallatin Fire Department | No date given |
If you have a restaurant in one of these cities, the hood system report is owed. The extinguishers in the same kitchen are not.
Brentwood’s Web Page Is Out of Date
Brentwood’s inspection reporting policy page still names a different portal, Inspection Reports Online, and does not list extinguishers.
Brentwood uses The Compliance Engine now, including for extinguishers and emergency lights. I file every Brentwood report there.
Who Files the Report?
Your service company files it. You do not need an account, and you do not upload anything yourself.
I file the report for every job in a city that requires one. Where a city does not require it, you still get the PDF report by email.
If a fire department tells you a report is missing, ask your provider for the date they filed it.
If You Sub Out Your Extinguisher Work
Sprinkler and alarm companies already file their own reports in these cities. The extinguisher and emergency light reports are now owed too, and they are easy to lose when a sub does the work.
When I subcontract for sprinkler companies and fire alarm companies, I file the extinguisher, emergency light, and suppression reports myself. Your customer’s record stays complete without your office touching it.
